What is the School for Parents of Children and Teenagers with OCD or Anxiety?
If your son or daughter has anxiety problems, obsessive thoughts and / or compulsions, you will surely have many questions and many doubts about what to do as a father or mother.
Even if your son or daughter receives psychological help, you also need some tools to help you in their education and care to improve their situation and to overcome their OCD or anxiety.
In order to provide you with some practical guidelines that you can apply at home and answer your questions, we open our School for Parents.
It is a live course with the specialist psychologist Irene Pascual, coordinator of Ipitia’s Department of OCD and Anxiety in Children and Teenagers.
The course is not recorded, but rather a live connection with the psychologist in which the specialist will present useful information and answer your questions.
Why is it Online?
We know that, as fathers or mothers, time is very valuable and scarce. For this reason, we carry out this course online, at the express request of several parents of children and adolescents with OCD. In this way, it will be much easier for you to fit the course into your weekly schedule.
How many attendees can participate?
The course has a maximum of 6 family units participants. For each family unit, 1 or 2 people can participate (no more, to allow better effectiveness)
How does it work?
It is a course of 4 sessions (one per week).
The sessions will be on Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will last an hour and a half.
The first edition of the course will begin on Wednesday, May 24th at 1:00 p.m.
What will be worked on in this School for Parents?
This is the content of each of the course sessions and the topics that will be discussed. The last session will be practical and we will deal with particular cases with confidence and confidentiality.
Session 1 - What is OCD in Children and Teenagers. How does it influence development and socialization.
Development, learning and socialization of children and adolescents. Information, advice and guidance. Includes real examples.
OCD in Children and Adolescents. Origins, symptoms and general guidelines for parents to apply at home. Includes real examples.
Session 2 - Help techniques, behavior management guidelines and family counseling
Specific techniques and skills to help the child or adolescent with OCD or anxiety. Behavior control guidelines and guidance to know how to act in specific situations. Practical cases.
Advice to improve family dynamics and how they affect the development of children. Practical cases.
Session 3 - How to prevent problems and work on autonomy and security
Consequences of anxious/obsessive/rigid family dynamics: how to prevent future problems in the development of the child and adolescent and/or in family relationships: working on the autonomy and safety of the child/adolescent and their fears.
Session 4 - Questions and specific cases. How to provide security to your child to reduce their symptoms
We close the course with the most practical and least theoretical class of all.
In this module, we will focus on the particular cases of participating families. We will deal with doubts, questions and specific cases of families: guidelines and tools to maintain family functioning that provides security to the child/adolescent and therefore reduces anxious/depressive/obsessive symptoms.
