Introducing IPITIA

Introducing IPITIA

Thank you for having come to us. On the website you will find a lot of information about the treatment of obsessive and anxiety disorders.

These few lines are to give you a summary of who we are and what we do.

  • The treatment for obsessive disorders has been developed by choosing therapeutic aspects from different psychological currents and integrating them into a specific form of therapeutic procedure, where these points are prioritised:
    • Analysis of the person’s history
    • Search for traumatic circumstances, especially in childhood or adolescence. Or, if this is not the case, assessment of possible overprotection in the family environment.
    • Analysis of the repercussions of these circumstances on the character, temperament and personality. Search for blockages, inhibitions and repressions.
    • Role of fear and guilt in the person’s lifestyle.
    • Therapeutic dialogue and activation of the patient through recommended and agreed activities.

The therapy carried out in this centre is eclectic and integrative.

  • All the psychologists working and collaborating at IPITIA have a degree in psychology and are qualified as health psychologists.
  • This centre is recognised as a health centre by the Generalitat de Catalunya.
  • The average duration of a weekly therapeutic process is between six months and two years. The treatment can also be carried out fortnightly but this, in some cases, can lengthen it.
  • Part of the therapy is the carrying out of external activities agreed with the patient (usually a sport, a physical activity or a creative activity). We attach great importance to the realisation of the agreed activities that can be done in the place where the patient lives.
  • In some cases, those with more serious symptoms, we consider it necessary, at least at the beginning of the therapy, for the patient to see a psychiatric specialist in case he/she considers it necessary to take medication. We reserve the right to continue the therapy if the psychiatrist prescribes any type of medication and the patient does not want to take it. We do this in cases where we consider it, together with the doctor, to be essential.

We collaborate with a psychiatrist from outside the centre, but the patient is free to choose his or her specialist doctor.

  • The therapy can be face-to-face in Barcelona or online, wherever the patient is located.
  • There is the possibility of participating in extensive group therapy during the week or intensive therapy at weekends.
  •  We do therapy in Spanish, Catalan, French, Italian, English, German, and Dutch.
